Star Wars The Old Republic Sentinel Guide – Class Roles

For the rest of this SWTOR Sentinel guide, I will be going over the roles which this particular class can fill and what sort of player should pick this class.

This class is a melee DPS class no matter what specialization or talent tree you pick. Its two talent trees are Watchman and Combat, each of which has a slightly different function.

Players who choose the Watchman talent tree will get abilities and skills which help the Sentinel deal damage-over-time. This is what you want to invest in if you are fighting raid bosses of flashpoint bosses which have a lot of HP and may take awhile to take down.

On the other hand, the Combat talent tree is designed to deal a lot of damage. Burst damage classes tend to have lower overall damage, but can be great for a lot of situations. They also tend to be fast at taking down weak enemies, which seem to be a key part of flashpoints and the leveling game.

If you have watched any of the gameplay videos of flashpoints, you know that the flashpoints have many encounters with what appears to be weak, non-elite enemies which tend to be coupled with a single very powerful enemy. The Sentinel’s role here is often to tank and focus down these weak enemies while the group’s real tank focuses on handling the larger, powerful enemy.

The Sentinel can often handle the weaker enemies solo while the main tank, ranged DPS, and healer focus down the stronger enemy in the wave. While every encounter does not work like that, it seems a lot do.

This is nice because it gives a melee DPS class an actual role and an advantage over ranged DPS classes, which in other MMORPGs are typically preferred for dungeons over melee DPS.

SWTOR Sentinel Guide Conclusion
