SWTOR Jedi Knight Talents

The SWTOR Jedi Knight has access to five different talent trees, depending on the class you pick. In this part of our SWTOR Jedi Knight guide, we will be covering all of the talents available to you, broken down into 5 categories based on which talent tree you pick.

The five talent trees that are available are: Watchman, Combat, Defense, Vigilance, and Focus. Depending on which advanced specialization you pick, you will have access to three of these talent trees.

SWTOR Jedi Knight Talents – Focus

The focus SWTOR Jedi Knight talent tree is for players of all specializations. It has a lot of abilities and talents which define the Jedi Knight class. This is one talent tree which does focus a lot on force abilities, which makes is the “utility” talent tree of the Jedi Knight.

What I mean by this is that this is the one SWTOR Jedi Knight talent tree which is open to having abilities which help the Jedi Knight in all sorts of situations. One example of this is Exhaustion, which is a Jedi Knight ability that actually snares the enemy target and is usable from range. This allows you to catch up to opponents who may be running away, which is particularly important in PvP combat.

SWTOR Guardian Talents – Defense and Vigilance

The Guardian has access to two very different talent trees: Defense and Vigilance. Both of these serve different roles and give your Jedi Knight some flexibility to participate in multiple game modes.

The first talent tree, Defense, is focused on tanking. It allows the class to make the most out of its defensive abilities and includes abilities which both increase your health and improve your defense. It also comes with some controlling abilities which allow you to tank better. This particular talent tree is for anyone who wants to tank flashpoints (4-man dungeons) and even raids.

The second talent tree, Vigilance, is a damage-oriented role. This is an ideal talent tree which works as an off-spec for the Defense tree. Since you can only tank inside flashpoints, you will want an off-spec like this that you can use in PvP, when leveling up, or when soloing enemies (for fun or to earn money). If you are certain you want to be a DPS class though, be sure to stick to the Sentinel.

Sentinel Talents

The Sentinel is the top melee DPS class for the Republic. It has two different talent trees available to it in addition to the Focus tree: Watchman and Combat. While each of these talent trees helps boost its damage, they do so in different ways and for different purposes.

The Watchman talent tree is designed for PvE – that is raids, flashpoints, and soloing. It has abilities which deal damage over time, and its damage increases the longer it is on a target. This is great versus bosses and the like that you might find in a flashpoint. It also has some mild self-healing abilities which are useful when soloing.

The Combat talent tree is designed for PvP. The reason for this is that it deals burst damage, or a lot of damage at once. In PvP, burst damage is great because it lets you take down players before they have a chance to be healed or heal themselves. The steady damage of the Watchman will get healed, whereas the Combat tree can burst down players fast.

As a result, you will likely have two talent specs as a Sentinel – one for PvE and one for PvP. This way, you can take advantage of both talent trees and use the ones ideal for your current situation.
