SWTOR Guardian PvP Builds and Guide
Despite the common misconception that tanking builds are not good for PvP, the Guardian will not be a terrible advanced class to play in Warzones if you have the right SWTOR Guardian PvP Builds. In this SWTOR Guardian PvP Guide, we will be going over the top builds you can use in warzones in order to maximize the strengths of your character.
First off, there are two different characters you can make as an SWTOR Guardian: a tanking or DPS build. Both of these SWTOR Guardian PvP builds are viable and they each fill a different role in Warzones and PvP.
SWTOR Guardian PvP Builds – Tanking
When it comes to warzones, making a Guardian PvP build based around defense can actually be quite useful. There are two particular uses a build like this would have: for any “capture the flag” type game (Huttball is the first Warzone that comes to mind) and for defending objectives.
One of the warzones that is in Star Wars The Old Republic is “Huttball”. Players have to compete for a single flag in the center of the map and carry it to their opponent’s goal line in order to score. You try to stop the enemy by taking down the ball carrier.
As a result, you will need a beefy character to carry the ball. In this case, a Sentinel specced for tanking actually works great.
Additionally, some warzones like Alderaan feature different objectives which can be captured around the map. A defensive-oriented Guardian can pick up talents which allow it to be very strong in 1v1 matches and also helps them survive for a long time against multiple opponents.
While this is not the most glamorous role, you can survive long enough to call for help and get reinforcements to whatever you are defending.
One thing to consider when going for a build like this is that you do not spec exactly like a PvE tank. You want to focus on abilities which control the enemy (stuns, crowd-controls, snares, etc) which bosses may be immune to.
Controlling players helps you win 1v1s and helps you reduce your damage intake from players. This allows you to survive longer against overwhelming odds and lets you more easily handle players in a 1v1 situation. Any mobility-increasing abilities are necessary to run a flag successfully as well.
Soon, we will add specific SWTOR Guardian PvP builds to this section so you can create your own Huttball-carrier or 1v1 specialist.
SWTOR Guardian PvP Builds – Damage-Dealing
If you want to play a damage-dealer in order to take a break from raids or just to have some fun, you can do so as a Guardian through the Vigilance tree. This particular tree is decent at dealing damage, but you also want to be sure to invest points into the Focus (shared) tree.
The Focus tree contains a lot of the utility talents which help boost your mobility and control, which are essential for PvP success. You do not want to put all your talent points in Vigilance or you will end up with a character that is always getting kited around.
While you won’t likely be as good as a Sentinel at the task of dealing damage, you can have a little fun playing as an off-spec and dealing damage in warzones.
We will be adding specific Guardian builds for this exact role soon; by the time you are ready to get into a warzone, they will already be up.
SWTOR Guardian PvP Builds and Guide Conclusion
While the Guardian isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you think of PvP in SWTOR, you can certainly make it work with the right builds. We will be adding specific builds for both roles in PvP soon to this site as the game gets ready to release.
