The Sentinel is the primary melee DPS of the Old Republic, and in this SWTOR Sentinel talents list you will be discovering which talents are best depending on your situation as a Sentinel.

There are two talent trees available to the Sentinel: Watchman and Combat. Watchman is dedicated towards longer fights, which lends itself to Operations (raids) and Flash Points (4-man dungeons). Other game situations lend themselves towards Combat, such as PvP, leveling, and farming.

SWTOR Sentinel Talents List – Watchman

The Watchman talent tree focuses on dealing consistent, regular damage to a target in SWTOR. While these SWTOR Sentinel talents list will not dish out huge burst damage, it is designed to give great, steady damage output to bosses in SWTOR. Here is the talents list:

Overload Lightsaber: This talent gives you access to the Overload Lightsaber ability, allowing you to charge your Lightsaber for 15 seconds. Each strike will put a debuff on the target which deals damage over time for 6 seconds, and this debuff can stack up to 3 times. There is a 12 second cooldown.

Merciless Zeal: Causes your burn critical hits to heal you for 2% of your health. This particular talent is actually useful for leveling up, soloing, and farming, as any healing you can get will reduce your downtime.

SWTOR Sentinel Talents List – Combat

The Combat will be a popular PvP and leveling tree as it allows you to deal a lot of burst damage by striking with your two weapons at the same time. Unlike the Watchman tree, this class deals damage up front rather than over time. Here is the talents list:

Blade Rush: Strikes the target with both weapons, dealing damage and triggering an instant Ataru Form strike. Additionally, over the next 6 seconds, successful attacks have a 30% chance to generate an instant Ataru Form strike as well.

Opportune Attack: Your Ataru Form hits cause you next ability which costs Focus to deal 10% more damage. This talent helps increase your burst damage.

Star Wars The Old Republic Sentinel Talents List – Focus Talents

The SWTOR Sentinel has access to the Focus talent tree, which is available to the Guardian as well. If you want to see a full list of these talents, check out our SWTOR Jedi Knight talents list.

SWTOR Sentinel Talents List Conclusion

The SWTOR Sentinel has a lot of great talents that you can use to tailor-make your character to fit the exact playstyle that you choose. Be sure to come back soon as we will be adding more and more talents to this list over time.

In this SWTOR Guardian Talents list, you will get a full list of talents which are specific to the Guardian class. You will also discover the best uses for each talent as well as which talents are good and which ones you should skip over.

SWTOR Guardian Talents List – Vigilance

The Vigilance talent tree is designed to help maximize the damage of the Guardian class. This can help you in PvP (when not flag holding but instead being an offensive class), when leveling up, and when farming.

The Guardian is primarily a tank in PvE, but when you are playing solo there is not much use for being a tank, so this talent tree really comes in handy for those situations. Here is the talent list:

Shien Form: This talent allows you to shift into Shien Form, increasing damage dealt by 6%. It also generates 1 focus every time you get struck (can only occur once every 6 seconds) as well as refunds a single focus point every time you use an ability which costs focus.

Force Scarring: This talent buffs your Sundering Strike ability, lowering your enemies internal and elemental resistances by 10% on the first application. This is good to use on any tougher opponent or even in PvP when targeting a tough Huttball carrier.

SWTOR Guardian Talent List – Defense

The Defense talent tree is your tanking talent tree. This is what allows the Guardian to be so successful in PvE as it helps reduce the damage the Guardian takes, allows him to control the opponent with much better precision, and helps increase his threat generation. Here is a list of talents:

Force Clap: This talent causes your Force Leap to now stun targets in a short area-of-effect range for 2 seconds. This makes Force Leap a great spell for starting an engagement; the 2 second stun helps give you the time you need to generate threat on your opponent before it can run after an over-eager DPS class.

Endure: Gives you access to the Endure ability, which increases your maximum health by 30% for 15 seconds. When you use this ability, it gives you that extra health, but you lose it at the end of the timer. You can use it when you are about to die to help save you or even use it preemptively during a period of heavy damage from a boss.

SWTOR Guardian Talents List – Shared Talents

The Focus talent tree is available to both the Guardian and the Sentinel. We have a full Focus talent tree available in our SWTOR Jedi Knight talents list that you can look at if you are curious about these talents.

These talents often increase the control of this class, and are valuable to both Defense and Vigilance specced characters.

SWTOR Guardian Talents List Conclusion

There are a lot of great talents available to the Guardian, and picking the right talents to suit your situation are quite important if you want to have success with this class.

Just remember that an optimal build is not always that important during the starting period for this class. You want to focus on a good leveling at the early levels and can always switch over to a tanking build once you reach the level cap.

When playing as a Guardian, you have your own set of unique abilities which are not accessible by the Sentinel. In this SWTOR Guardian Abilities list, you will get a full list of unique Guardian abilities as well as the best strategies for using each ability when you are playing Star Wars The Old Republic.

SWTOR Guardian Abilities List – Abilities Unlocked From Talents

As a Guardian, you get many of your unique abilities from putting points in your talent trees. These two trees are Vigilance and Defense. Below, you will find a SWTOR Guardian Abilities list for each of these two talent trees:

Guardian Abilities Unlocked Via Vigilance

Shien Form – Shien Form gives you 6% extra damage, each focus-consuming ability refunds 1 focus after it is used, and you generate 1 focus every time you are attacked (this damage effect can only occur once every 6 seconds). This form helps increase your damage since the Guardian is not known for its damage.

Guardian Abilities Unlocked Via Defense

Endure – Increases max health by 30% for 15 seconds. Once the effect ends, this health is lost (i.e. if you have 10,000 HP and this effect brings you to 13,000 HP, when this effect ends you will lose 3,000 HP. If you are at full health, you will drop back to 10,000 HP. However, if you are at 7000 HP, you will drop to 4,000 health when the effect wears off.

SWTOR Guardian Abilities List – Trainer Abilities

You may get access to some abilities via the trainer which may be completely independent of talents. I suspect that this will be the case, but this is not yet confirmed. We will update this list with abilities and related strategies once this portion of the game gets closer to release.

Star Wars The Old Republic Guardian Abilities List – Shared Abilities

The abilities which fall under the Focus tree are completely shared between the Guardian and Sentinel and both classes can get access to these abilities. You can find out all about these shared abilities by checking out our SWTOR Jedi Knight abilities List.

SWTOR Guardian Abilities List Conclusion

While we do not have a full list of SWTOR Guardian Abilities just yet, we will be updating this list soon with more abilities and related strategy once Star Wars The Old Republic comes closer to release.

The Sentinel has access to its own unique abilities that are completely separate from the Guardian. In this SWTOR Sentinel abilities list, you will find a complete list of SWTOR Sentinel abilities as well as the best times that you can use them.

Each ability will ultimately link out to its own page where you will find specific strategies about that particular ability, so be sure to check back often as we add strategies to this Star Wars The Old Republic Sentinel abilities list.

SWTOR Sentinel Abilities List – Talented Abilities

Some Sentinel abilities are unlocked via talents rather than learned from the trainer. To access these abilities, you will have to talk to put talent points in these abilities in order to unlock them. There are two Sentinel unique talent trees: Watchman and Combat.

Skills Unlocked Via Watchman Talents

Overload Lightsaber (12 second cooldown) – Places a charge on your Lightsaber for 15 seconds, causing your next 3 successful attacks to cause elemental damage over 6 seconds. This can stack up to 3 times. The effect cannot occur more than every 1.5 seconds.

Skills Unlocked Via Combat Talents

Blade Rush (no cooldown) – Strikes the target with both weapons for a static amount of damage plus an Ataru Form strike. For the next 6 seconds, you have a 30% chance to get an extra Ataru Form strike from successful hits.

SWTOR Sentinel Abilities List – Trainer Abilities

It is not known if any abilities will be available to all Sentinels from the trainer and not from talents. This will have to be the subject of a future update as we just cannot say for now.

Star Wars The Old Republic Sentinel Skills – Shared

All Jedi Knights get access to shared abilities, regardless of whether they are Guardians or Sentinels. You can get a full list of these abilities in our SWTOR Jedi Knight Abilities List.

SWTOR Sentinel Abilities List Conclusion

By having a clear idea of what abilities you have access to and how to use them effectively, you can play your character much more effectively. The best players always make use of as many abilities as possible, whereas the worst players always stick to just a few.

Use this information to incorporate all of your abilities in order to maximize your character’s strength!

If you want to farm money as a Sentinel in SWTOR, you have a lot of options available to you.

First of all, really any spec or build is capable of farming. You don’t want to go out of your way for a farming build unless you are planning on spending quite a bit of time farming.

There is no point in spending the time and credits it takes to get a new spec ready when you only have a short amount of time to farm. Even if there is a dual spec in the game, odds are you will probably want to share a spec between PvE (raids) and PvP. However, if you are not interested in PvP and there is a dual spec option perhaps you can indeed have a dungeon build and a farming build.

Things to Add to Your SWTOR Sentinel Farming Build

As far as talent points go, a lot of people think that PvE builds (designed to maximize damage output) are the same things you want to include in your farming builds. This is actually not the case.

When you are farming, a lot of your time will be spent moving from enemy to enemy. Anything that lets you charge or jump between enemies is always a good talent for this reason. Even better are moves which pull your enemy to you, as this way you can grab the loot as soon as they fall. Of course, if you have your companion you could always have them loot NPCs for you so you don’t have to.

Another thing to consider is self-healing capabilities. Generally in raids or dungeons you do not really care about self-healing abilities unless you are the tank. Everyone else gets healed by healers, so you want to skip over the healing talents and instead opt for maxing damage.

When you are farming, this is not the case, as even mild healing abilities can really speed up your farming rates. You will want to do whatever you can to increase you farming speed by grabbing talents that heal. Of course, you can always pick up a healing-oriented companion as this may help you out quite a bit.

SWTOR Sentinel Farming Guide – What to Farm

While we don’t know exactly what will be farmed for credits just yet, you can be sure that any monster or thing which can give you materials used for crafting will be really valuable. As long as the developers make good on the promise to make crafting have the ability to make good items, materials will be in-demand as players race to level their crafts in order to create such items.

Once we get to play the game we can make recommendations for items to craft in order to make plenty of credits as an SWTOR Sentinel.

SWTOR Sentinel Farming Builds and Guide Conclusion

The best farming builds for your SWTOR Sentinel are ones that allow you to not only deal good damage but also offer some healing and increase your ability to move from enemy to enemy. As far as what items in particular you should be farming, we will have to wait and see about that.

In this Star Wars The Old Republic Jedi Knight leveling guide, you will be discovering the fastest way to level up your Jedi Knight to the max level in the shortest time possible.

SWTOR Jedi Knight Leveling Guide – Origin World

When you start out your time in Star Wars: The Old Republic, you simply just have to follow the quests given to you on your origin world.

The “origin world” refers to the class-specific content where you play through each class’ storyline. Practically everything you do for the first 10 levels of the game is “origin world” content. Think of it as the starter area of the game, and it is an entirely different experience for each class rather than each nation.

Your origin world experience culminates with your choice of advanced class. Once you pick to be either a Sentinel or a Guardian, you will start getting into content that is designed for players of all classes on your faction, and less and less of the content in the game will be related to your specific class.

So, from the start until you select your advanced class, you do nothing except for work on the quests given to you at your origin world as part of this SWTOR Jedi Knight leveling guide.

SWTOR Jedi Knight Leveling Guide – Guardian and Sentinel

Once you reach level 10, you can pick to be either a Sentinel or a Guardian. Each of these specializations has different tasks and as a result different builds for leveling up.

However, both classes have pretty much the exact same leveling path. You can get through most of the levels in-game just by doing quests. The leveling aspect of this game is very quest-oriented and is designed for a no-grinding experience.

Star Wars The Old Republic Jedi Knight Leveling Guide – Builds

For the first 10 levels you are a Jedi Knight and do not have to worry too much about leveling builds. However, once you reach level 10 you will have to pick an advanced class. Each advanced class has different skill trees and as a result different leveling builds.

You can learn about the best builds for each class for leveling in our sections:

- SWTOR Sentinel Leveling Builds

- SWTOR Guardian Leveling Builds

SWTOR Jedi Knight Leveling Guide – Conclusion

Leveling up as a Jedi Knight is pretty easy in Star Wars The Old Republic. Simply do the quests in the game and use one of the great leveling builds we recommend and you will have no problem leveling up to the max level in SWTOR.

Be sure to check back soon as we will add some other recommendations to the guide like what levels to do dungeons as well as PvP.

If you want to earn credits on your Guardian, you may decide to take up farming. In other words, this is a spec that a max-level player might use in order to maximize their efficiency killing enemies.

Farming is just one way of earning credits in Star Wars The Old Republic, but if you are going to farm you need a good SWTOR Guardian farming build to make it worth your time. You do not want to waste your time farming as a spec that isn’t able to kill enemies fast as that would just be a wasted effort.

SWTOR Farming Builds – Vigilance

It seems pretty clear like a mix between Vigilance and Focus abilities will be perfect for maximizing the damage output of the Guardian. However, we really do not know exactly what SWTOR will be like so we will need to wait awhile before we can put up any farming guides.

Plan on this section being updated with a build for max-level players looking to farm credits as the Vigilance class soon.

SWTOR Guardian Farming Guide

As a Guardian in SWTOR, there may be a lot of different ways to earn credits. However, we will wait until we get into the game before deciding exactly how to make credits.

Just remember that even Guardians (which may have low DPS) can craft and use their companions in order to earn credits, typically which will earn more credits than even the fastest farming classes.

The Guardian is one of the two advanced class specializations of the Jedi Knight in Star Wars The Old Republic. In this SWTOR Guardian guide, you will discover the roles of the class as well as the top builds and strategies you can use when playing as a Guardian.

SWTOR Guardian Guide – Class Roles

The Guardian has two roles in SWTOR: tanking and DPS. As a tank, the Guardian is one of the premiere tanks of the Republic, and is considered a first-tier tank. If you know ahead of time that you want to make end-game PvE combat (i.e. flashpoints and raids) a major part of your playstyle and you want to be a tank, then the Guardian is a good choice for you.

Alternatively, the class can also become a damage-dealer through its Vigilance talent tree. However, the truth is that it is a second-rate damage dealer; if it was a top-tier damage dealer, there would be no point in having the Sentinel (the other Jedi Knight advanced class) even in the game.

I would consider the Guardian to be a good tank and a second-rate DPS. The DPS specialization exists to give the Guardian something to do when not tanking, making it easier to level up, farm credits, and participate in PvP matches.

For this reason, I would not recommend the Guardian for a first-time MMORPG player. This is a class for players who know they want to tank. If you want to be a Jedi but don’t even know what tanking is, stick to the Sentinel.

SWTOR Guardian Guide – Abilities

The Guardian has its own set of abilities completely unique to it that the Sentinel does not get access to. You can get a full list of these abilities in our section: SWTOR Guardian Abilities.

SWTOR Guardian Guide – Builds

Perhaps the most important section of this Star Wars The Old Republic Guardian guide is the builds section. In order to keep the size of this specific page within reason, we have split up our Guardian builds into multiple sections:

SWTOR Guardian Farming Builds

SWTOR Guardian PvE Builds

SWTOR Guardian Guide – Leveling Up

Leveling up as a Guardian does not have to be slow. You will get your best results by picking a build and strategy which straddles both tanking and damage-dealing. There is no need to go full-bore into tanking for low-level flashpoints given how easy they are.

You can find more out about how to level up quickly as a Guardian in our SWTOR Guardian Leveling Guide.

Star Wars The Old Republic Guardian Guide – PvP

Believe it or not, the Guardian does indeed have a role in PvP. It is great at games like Huttball where your team is tasked with carrying a ball across the enemies’ goal line while they try to kill your ball-carrier.

You can learn more about the best builds and strategies for the Guardian to use in PvP in our SWTOR Guardian PvP guide.

SWTOR Guardian Guide – Conclusion

Once the game is finally released, this SWTOR Guardian Guide will be updated to include everything there is to know about playing a Guardian successfully. We will be adding more builds, tips, strategies, and tanking information over time so be sure to stop by regularly for new updates!

SWTOR Sentinel Guide – Abilities

The Sentinel is a dual lightsaber-wielding class that has its own unique set of abilities that are distinct from the Guardian. For a full ability list as well as some tips on how to use each ability, check out our section on SWTOR Sentinel Abilities.

SWTOR Sentinel Guide – Builds

There are so many different builds which the Sentinel can use effectively depending on its situation. You will need different builds for leveling up, for PvP, for farming, and for dungeons and raids. In this portion of our SWTOR Sentinel Guide, we have dedicated a specific page to each of these situations:

SWTOR Sentinel Guide – Leveling Up

The first priority on every player’s mind when the game first comes out is not only having an enjoyable yet fast leveling process. Leveling up fast is simply a fun thing to do.

As a result, we have dedicated this portion of our SWTOR Sentinel guide towards leveling up: SWTOR Sentinel Leveling Builds.

This section is packed with tips and strategies you can use in order to level up quickly and efficiently as well as give you an idea of what the fastest ways in the game to level up are as a Sentinel.

SWTOR Sentinel Guide – PvP

Many people who are picking the Sentinel class are interested in PvP combat, myself included. In our PvP Guide, we will be revealing the best PvP strategies you can use as a Sentinel as well as the best builds to fill specific roles in each Warzone.

You can read about these builds and strategies in our SWTOR Sentinel PvP Guide.

Star Wars The Old Republic Sentinel Guide – Class Roles

For the rest of this SWTOR Sentinel guide, I will be going over the roles which this particular class can fill and what sort of player should pick this class.

This class is a melee DPS class no matter what specialization or talent tree you pick. Its two talent trees are Watchman and Combat, each of which has a slightly different function.

Players who choose the Watchman talent tree will get abilities and skills which help the Sentinel deal damage-over-time. This is what you want to invest in if you are fighting raid bosses of flashpoint bosses which have a lot of HP and may take awhile to take down.

On the other hand, the Combat talent tree is designed to deal a lot of damage. Burst damage classes tend to have lower overall damage, but can be great for a lot of situations. They also tend to be fast at taking down weak enemies, which seem to be a key part of flashpoints and the leveling game.

If you have watched any of the gameplay videos of flashpoints, you know that the flashpoints have many encounters with what appears to be weak, non-elite enemies which tend to be coupled with a single very powerful enemy. The Sentinel’s role here is often to tank and focus down these weak enemies while the group’s real tank focuses on handling the larger, powerful enemy.

The Sentinel can often handle the weaker enemies solo while the main tank, ranged DPS, and healer focus down the stronger enemy in the wave. While every encounter does not work like that, it seems a lot do.

This is nice because it gives a melee DPS class an actual role and an advantage over ranged DPS classes, which in other MMORPGs are typically preferred for dungeons over melee DPS.

SWTOR Sentinel Guide Conclusion

Once the game comes out and we can actually start playing the Jedi Knight class, this SWTOR Sentinel guide will be updated with tons of builds and strategies you can use with the SWTOR Sentinel class.

In this section, you will discover the best SWTOR Guardian leveling builds available to the Jedi Knight. I will say outright that we do not recommend leveling up as a Guardian to be the ideal choice in Star Wars The Old Republic, and it would be faster to level up as a Sentinel.

However, you may be playing with a group of friends or as part of a pre-made guild and may plan on tanking flashpoints for your group. If this is the case, then I can see why you might pick a Guardian to level up as.

Below, we will include the best SWTOR Guardian leveling builds so that you can level up as a Guardian if that is what you choose to do.

Best SWTOR Guardian Leveling Builds – Hybrids

If you do choose to level up as a Guardian, I would recommend picking a hybrid specialization. There are several reasons for this:

Flash points, or entry level dungeons, are designed to be very easy. You do not need to spec fully into the Defense tree in order to tank these. You can split your points between Defense, Vigilance, and Focus and still be good enough to tank.

By splitting your points, you give yourself some damage-dealing abilities to fall back on once you are outside of the dungeon and playing as a solo player.

If you are going to go full DPS (Vigilance), then why would you not just level up as a Sentinel and switch over to Guardian once you are at the level cap? This way you can maximize your damage output while leveling and then switch over to a tanking-oriented job once you are at max level.

For these reasons, your SWTOR Guardian leveling builds should include talents from all three trees. You should take the bare minimum required to tank a dungeon (i.e. picking up the basic threat-generating and damage-reducing abilities) and then putting the rest of your talent points into abilities which deal damage.

SWTOR Guardian Leveling Guide – Specific Talents

Since the game is not yet ready to play, we do not have specific SWTOR Guardian leveling builds up on the site yet. Once the game comes out, we will be adding builds that you can use to level up as a Guardian with quickly and effectively that are ideal for both tanking and leveling up solo.

SWTOR Guardian Leveling Builds – Conclusion

The best SWTOR Guardian leveling builds do not have all your points in protection. Remember that most of the leveling process is catered to playing solo and there are only a handful of flashpoints to run as a low-level player. Be sure to pick up abilities which allow you to deal damage for this very reason.

When the game comes out, come back to this page and you will find a good list of SWTOR Sentinel leveling builds that you can use in order to create the type of leveling build discussed in this article.
